Sometimes the solutions to your mixing problems are right under your nose. But in order to know how to fix a problem, you first need to know what the problem is. In this week's video blog, I demonstrate how I solved a somewhat complicated problem I had with vocal track in a mix using a plug-in I wouldn't normally use: the pitch shift. It took me quite a while to catch that there was something strange going on in this particular part of the song, but once I knew what that problem was, I simply needed to consider all of the tools in my mixing toolbox. Pitch shift, a plug-in I'll later describe in more detail in my "Intro to Mixing" series, just happened to be that solution despite the fact that I almost never use it.

Check out the video, and let me know what you think of my decision. And remember, just because you don't normally use a particular plug-in doesn't mean you won't need it one day. Always consider all of your options! Enjoy.
