The First Mix: Levels

So you've finished recording your tracks, and it's time to get down to mixing. What do you do first?

For me, the answer is simple. I spend about an hour adjusting levels, and I do it section by section, automating where necessary.

I also do this from the top of my session, working down from the most "rhythmic" instruments to the least.
